The Best of Ontario — Local Business Rankings

Free, honest monthly rankings of Ontario's best local businesses

About The Best of Ontario

The Best of Ontario publishes free, monthly rankings of local businesses across Toronto, the GTA, and the rest of the province. Instead of selling placement, it scores each business mainly on real customer satisfaction and service quality pulled from public review signals.

Every ranking — from best tacos in Kensington Market to best butter tart in Ontario — is generated by reading reviews, weighing six underlying signals (rating, review volume, recency, sentiment, consistency, and category fit), and refreshing the list monthly so it reflects how a business is actually performing right now.

Business owners can nominate themselves for consideration, and consumers can browse by category or on an interactive map. The goal is simple: help people get to know the shops and service providers in their own neighbourhood, give honest local businesses the recognition they've earned, and keep more spending close to home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Each business is scored mainly on real customer satisfaction and service, using six weighted signals drawn from public reviews — rating, review volume, recency, sentiment, consistency, and category fit. Ad spend and paid placement don't factor into the score.
Is it free to use?
Yes. Browsing rankings is completely free for consumers, and there's no cost for businesses to be included in a ranking they qualify for.
How often are rankings updated?
Rankings are refreshed monthly so they reflect a business's current performance rather than a one-time snapshot.
Can I nominate my business?
Yes. Use the "Nominate a business" button on the site to submit a business for consideration in an upcoming ranking cycle.
Which areas does it cover?
The platform currently covers Toronto, the Greater Toronto Area, and is expanding across Ontario, with categories spanning food, drink, and local services.
